Sepia Toned
In the later 2000’s, when I pretty much completely transitioned from
shooting my work in film, to digital, one of the first things I did,
was to go through my entire library of film based works. I created
hi-res scans, of my favorite images, and started working on them
in post production. It was at that time, that one of my favorite
digital alterations, espcially to b/w film images, was creating a
‘ sepia ’ toned effect. This is where you choose a warm, brownish
yellow tone, perhaps over laying a parchment pattern, and using
‘ layers ’ manipulation, in a very controlled blending of two visual
elements - the original images, and the textured ‘ over lay ’.
The results can be alot of fun, and can bring an image to life, in a
different, and very interesting way. This collection of images.,
the majority shot in b/w film, - only nine in this grouping were shot
digitally, are my favorites thus far, using this technique.
