Alviso / Edward Wildlife Refuge
Here in the San Francisco Bay Area, finding open, desolate areas
to create fine art images, is sometimes an art form unto
itself. At the very bottom of the San Francisco Bay, there is a place
called Alviso. It has been one of my favorite places to create
imagery, both as stand along landscape compositions, and as an
interesting place for figurative themes as well.
This collection of works represents my favorite photographs I
have created while walking along the various levees that define
the old salt ponds. These ponds were formerly used for the
commercial extraction of sea salt from the San Francisco Bay. Many
of these photographs represent areas now flooded, due to
attempts to bring back the original wetlands.
